Below are the rules for the Top Speed and Scale Competitions.
(Notice the 2010 Top Speed rules differ from the 2009 Rules)

  • These rules are subject to change, clarification, or modification by the event committee at any time.

  • The event director has the final say in any dispute.

Scale

  • Some type of documentation will be required. This can be a picture, artist's rendition or something to prove that the actual aircraft and scheme did exist.

  • Box stock ARFs will NOT qualify. ARFs will be allowed but the model must be "Enhanced" from the stock condition. Such as repainted to a different scheme, or physically converted to a different version. Adding a few decals won't be accepted.

  • There will be dedicated flight sessions for the scale competition with only two scale models being flown at the same time.

  • The object here is to fly this flight in the most appropriate scale manner possible.

  •  There will be two judges on each flight line observing the flights including mechanical options.

  • No structured flight sequence or minimum amount of maneuvers will be required. Just make the flight as scale as possible.

  • The flight sequence can be “called” to the judges per the typical scale competition but not required.

  •  Remember, this is not Top Gun, it is scale addition to the E-Jets event to showcase the scale aircraft and have a little fun.

  • We will have a designated time for presenting the model and the documentation to the judges for qualification for the scale segment.

  • Flights will be scored using the E-Jets Scale Flight Judging Guide.

  • There are no automatic points for the “Wow Factor” portion of the flight score.

  •  Wow Factor points must be “earned” by items such as Mechanical Options, Fit, Finish, Originality, and other scale Enhancements.

Top Speed:

 E-Jets Top Speed Competition Rules.

  • Each pilot is allowed one “attempt” for each qualification period and speed final. An “attempt” is defined as when the aircraft becomes airborne.
  • The “official” speed will be the average of the fastest upwind and downwind pass per flight.
  • All passes must be placed at the outside edge of the runway. This line is approximately 70’ from the pilot’s stations.
  •  Radar will be used to record the speed of each pass.
  • The aircraft must be flown flat and level for the length of the runway. No diving at the radar gun will be allowed.
  • Maximum allowed altitude per pass will be approximately 200’. There are electrical wires that run the length of the field along the road. The wires are 60’ high. As the aircraft makes it’s set up to the an attempted pass, it may not fly over three times the height of these wires as judged from the pilots station. There will be judges located behind the pilots to verify this altitude and notify the pilot if the altitude is unreasonably high. This will be a visual judgment and will be as consistent as possible throughout the competition. The judges ruling will be final.
  • The aircraft must make a landing at either the main grass or tarmac runways. It does not have to be pretty, but the aircraft must come back.
  • There will be one qualification period Thursday, Friday, and Saturday weather permitting. The “Fastest Five” out of all the qualification periods will compete in the finals on Saturday evening. Pilots do not have to qualify each day. A pilot can stand on a specific speed as long they are not “Bumped” from the “Fastest Five”.
  • Aircraft can be hand launched, bungee launched, or use traditional landing gear. Any battery configuration may be used.
  • If the judges determine that the pilot is flying in an unsafe manner, the pilot will be asked to land immediately.
  • This event is for a few trophies, “bragging rights”, and to have a little fun. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
